Usage
Send a text message to (773) 280-5867 structured the following way:
Admin commands
These commands set up your experience with DiceBuddy.
- nick [NAME]
- Change the nickname that all your die rolls will show up as. DiceBuddy will respond with "Updated nickname to '[NAME]'" if successful.
- create [NAME]
- Create a new group with the given name. The person who creates the group automatically joins the group. You can only be part of one group at a time. If ever a group has no memebers, it is removed from the system (but feel free to make it again if you want it). DiceBuddy will respond with "Created group '[NAME]'" on success.
- join [NAME]
- Join the specified group. This will remove you from the prior group (if any) you belonged to. DiceBuddy will respond with "You're now a member of group '[NAME]'" on success.
- drop
- Drop out of all groups.
- help
- Get help on usage of Dice with Buddies delivered to your device via SMS.
Dice Rolls
Anything that is not an Admin command DiceBuddy attempts to interpret as a die roll. The general syntax of a die roll is "[EXPRESSION] [LABEL]", with the label being optional. The expression is generally "[QUANTITY]d[SIDES][OPERATOR][MODIFIER]". [OPERATOR] can be "+", "-" or "*". All other options are integers. Here's some examples:
- d4
- Simple expression with only the number of sides specified; will become "1d4"
- 4d6
- Standard expression with both quantity and number of sides defined
- 1d20+10
- Addition operator
- 4d6+10
- Multi-die addtion; the modifier (10 in this case) will be added to the total, not to each individual die.
